1. What we collect
When you sign in with Google, we store your name, email address, and profile picture. This is used solely to identify your account and display your name in the app.
When you upload vocab photos, we send them to Google Gemini for text extraction. We do not store your photos. They are processed and discarded immediately.
We store your vocab sets, vocab items, and AI-generated exercises in our database so you can access them across sessions.
2. How we use your data
- To provide the Frenchly study experience
- To save your vocab sets and exercises
- To authenticate you via Google OAuth
We do not sell, share, or rent your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.
3. Third-party services
- Google OAuth — for sign-in authentication
- Google Gemini API — for vocab extraction and exercise generation
- Neon — for database hosting (PostgreSQL)
- Vercel — for application hosting
Each of these services has their own privacy policies. Your uploaded images are sent to Google Gemini for processing but are not stored by us.
4. Data retention
Your account data and vocab sets are stored for as long as your account exists. You can delete individual vocab sets from your dashboard at any time. If you want your entire account deleted, contact us and we will remove all your data.
5. Cookies
We use session cookies to keep you signed in. We do not use tracking cookies, analytics cookies, or advertising cookies.
6. Children's privacy
Frenchly is designed for GCSE students (typically aged 14-16). We collect only the minimum data necessary to provide the service. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without parental consent.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can delete your vocab sets at any time from the dashboard. For account deletion or data requests, contact us at the email below.
